ABOUT THE JOURNEY
I have always felt a deep connection to the ancient mysteries of Egypt. As a musician, it was my dream to journey to Egypt and to play in the Great Pyramid. I longed to experience the vibration of one of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World and to hear my music resonate within its sacred alabaster walls. As I contemplated this journey “home” to Egypt, I spent time in quiet meditation and preparation.
As I sat in silence, I heard an ancient voice that lured me across the sands of time. It said, “Just as the sun greets the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid, it will greet you. Your time has come. It is a new dawn and the dawn has many dreams. This one is yours. I am the composer. Listen to my sound. You and the music will now be laced with sacred symbols filled with love and healing power. Return to the Great Pyramid. Your music is in the walls. You are here now to reclaim it…. To bring it back to all who hear it. The great secrets will be encoded in the tones. Let us walk through the doorway to your soul. The gifts of love and music await.”
I journeyed into the Great Pyramid alone, with my flute. As I sat with my back against the cool stone sarcophagus in the King’s Chamber, surrounded only by the glow of softly burning candles, I began to allow the echoes of ages past to play. Ethereal melodies cascaded down the alabaster walls, filling the holy place with a strangely mystical sound, serene yet powerful.
The Ancient Key is alive. Come with me through the doorway to a place and time long gone, yet potent and in the moment. Let this journey bring tranquility to your soul and inspire your heart. Let it lead you through your own secret passages and hidden chambers to find the mysteries of the Great Pyramid within you.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
Wendy Luck, composer and flutist, created “The Ancient Key” writing structures, melodies, and rhythms prior to her Egyptian journey. These compositions served as seeds for the selections contained in the album. Once there, she improvised the music inspired in the moment. The music draws on many aspects of her musical background: classical, jazz, avant-garde and nonwestern music, where unusual effects, new fingerings, harmonics and non-standard concepts of pitch and scales come together to create new world music for the millennium. This recording utilizes the natural acoustics of the Great Pyramid. No studio effects have been added.
ABOUT THE ANCIENT KEY – A MYSTICAL FOOTNOTE
The architects and high priests who designed the Great Pyramid were inspired by the physics of sound. The proof of this discovery can be found in the Ancient Records, which reveal that the engineers and mathematicians of that time incorporated the eerily perfect acoustical design by using the F# tone (also considered the resonating tone of planet Earth) into their architectural plans. The tritone C was also part of the configuration. Ms. Luck constructed a scale based on these tones which provided the musical material for the title track “The Ancient Key.”
